The 13th State Parks Day arrives June 5 with Free camping and day-use parking at every state park in Oregon part of the celebration. Visitors to state park campgrounds will pay nothing to rent full hookup (sewer, electricity and water), electrical hookup (electricity and water) and tent sites. Full rates, however, will be charged for yurts, cabins and reserved group picnic areas. Day-use fees will be waived at the 26 parks that require passes. There have been some facility upgrades in our region this spring, making parks in our area better for everyone. Catherine Creek, Hilgard and Red Bridge State Parks each received new ADA accessibility improvements in their rest rooms. For Catherine Creek, that includes new restrooms in the popular day use area. The beautiful small park along tumbling Catherine Creek upstream from Union is a favorite for family reunions, company picnics and other gatherings of family and friends. While the overnight area facilities were already fully accessible, the improvements at the day use area will be a welcome change. The rest rooms at Hilgard and Red Bridge State Parks were enlarged to accommodate wheel chairs. The State Parks managers for northeast Oregon are developing a schedule of special events for the summer.
