Summer has finally heated up in northeast Oregon, but the North Powder Huckleberry Festival is the cool place to be this Saturday. While the temperature may be warm, many activities take place on shaded lawns and there will be lots of tasty treats available to distract festival goers from the heat. Try the huckleberry cheesecake at the Wolf Creek Grange or huckleberry lemonaide and desserts, along with all manner of huckleberry goodies, lotions, candles and gifts at the Huckleberry Patch, a specialy shop that opens one day a year, just for this event. FIREMEN BARBECUE AT THE NORTH POWDER HUCKLEBERRY FESTIVAL
The North Powder Rural Fire Department is getting ready for their third annual London Broil Barbecue in conjunction with the North Powder Huckleberry Festival, Saturday, July 25. The barbecue takes place from 5 to 7 p.m., at the fire station on E Avenue and in the city park. The menu includes London Broil steak, salad, rolls and beans for $8 or a simpler hot dog meal for $4. Come show your support for the community's important quick response team and fire fighters.
North Powder is located in northeast Oregon, just take exit 285 from Interstate 84, about midway between La Grande and Baker City. The 2010 North Powder Huckleberry Festival will take place July 31.
