Union County FFA instructors and students are busy putting together all of the details for the 2009 Oregon State FFA Convention this March in La Grande. Speakers, meals, field trips, an awards banquet, the logistics of hosting 1500 students and advisors; the minute details for such a big event seem endless. Meanwhile, the business community is also laying the groundwork for playing their role in ensuring the convention is successful and shines a favorable light on the city. The motels are full for March 21 through 24, with some overflow going to dorms at Eastern Oregon University. Restaurants and lodging facilities are looking ahead, planning for increased staffing and supplies. And community leaders are ensuring that all public places are attractive and ready for the influx of users.
To help the business community get ready, Union County Tourism and the Union County Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting Hospitality 101 customer service training sessions March 3, with content specific to hosting the FFA convention. The training will be held in the Colleen Johnson Community Room of the La Grande public library. Please watch for more news about the times and content.
There is a lot to do over the next two months, but we are excited to have this opportunity to host the young people who are certain to become the leaders in our state. Agriculture is one of the state’s founding industries and still plays a major role in Oregon’s economy. FFA helps hone leadership skills, builds strong work ethics and shapes the critical thinking that will keep the industry and Oregon strong far into the future. WELCOME FFA, we look forward to having you here!
